Extra cards from the October Kit of the Month

It is always a great idea to make greeting cards from the left overs of a scrapbook page. This is because everything is already colour co-ordinated so there is not too much thinking to be done as far as colours are concerned.

I also try not to re-cut the pieces of paper scraps. I use them just the way they are except for a bit of tweaking if necessary.

Ink the edges of the cards to give them a bit of a border and some interest. The one above is inked and the one below is not. It really makes a difference.

Do I put a lot of time and effort into greeting cards...sorry no I don't. I would rather put my time and effort into a scrapbook page which will be kept (hopefully) for a life time, rather that a greeting card which is often tossed without so much as a quick glance.

'Them old bones'

What would you do with a few bones left over from a stew? Well on a recent scrapping weekend away, I challenged the ladies to see what they could do with these bones and a few scraps of paper!
See below how creative they were!

Materials allowed:
2 sheets of cardstock
Scraps of paper from the weekend
Left over lettering
Anything 'found'
Old bones and paint

Michelle Azzie used scraps of paper to punch rounds, which she stitched into place, then used the bones to stamp another rows of circles. She finished it off with left over lettering.
I used Washi Tape, scraps of paper and the bones as a stamp, as well as left over lettering.

Nicole Clark used the bones for stamping her design, left over chocolate wrappers, string, buttons, corrugated cardboard and small flags from the back of packaging.
Hayley Webber used the bones for stamping the 'bubbles', corrugated board for the fish and left over lettering and paper.

WINNER OF THE MARCH BLACKBOARD CHALLENGE

For the March Blackboard Challenge you had to use:
  • A green colour scheme
  • Any paper of your choice
  • Vellum
  • Butcher's twine
  • Hand or machine stitching
  • Buttons
  • Paint
  • Chipboard Title

I used a guest judge this month (thanks Glenda) and the pages were all very good making the decision difficult. Congratulations goes to:

REINETTE DE VILLIERS

The judges like the way the paint was used around the edge of the page, for the colouring of the chipboard title and to create the piece of paper under the journaling.

The hand stitching done with butcher's twine was very different!
Michelle Azzie
The embossing of the vellum using a Cuttlebug, the neat hand stitching and placement of the butcher's twine was impressive.
Vanessa Mayhew
The arrangement of the circles of vellum with stitching was very good, as was the crackle on the chipboard lettering and the journaling.
Congratulations must go to all three of the above ladies for a job well done!

Passage of Time

It is amazing how time passes and one is only too aware of it when you look back at photos and you can see how things have changed… how your kids have grown… how your garden has developed… how fashion has changed… how our scrapping has evolved and how we have aged!

This month, as we celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Scrapping and Fishing weekend, I take a nostalgic journey back to 2001 when held the first of these amazing weekends. We can reminisce about the fun we have had, the friends we have made, (and some we have lost), and the traditions we have formed. Enjoy!
